The Ann Arbor Sports Commission was formed to attract amateur sporting events to the Ann Arbor region for economic impact, positive national exposure, and quality of life enhancement for its residents. The commission acts as a conduit on behalf of the region in the bid efforts for all major and participant-driven sporting events that meet its mission.
We have a well-established history of NCAA joint partnerships in bid development for a variety of indoor and outdoor sports as well as partner with Club Sports in bidding events such as Club Hockey Championships. As partners with Rec Services, Lacrosse America has hosted tournaments in the Ann Arbor region.
The Sports Commission values its partnership with the University of Michigan. Thanks to its world-class sports facilities, U-M has a rich history of hosting major sporting events on campus:
- Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympic Games Field Hockey Events
- AAU Junior Olympic Games Swimming Events
- NHL Winter Classic
- International Champions Cup (ICC) Soccer Matches
- NCAA Tournaments, Regionals and Championships
"Of the 20+ annual events that Lacrosse America runs all over the Midwest, our Ann Arbor event has become a yearly staple. There is no doubt that a large part of the event's success is due to the Ann Arbor Sports Commission and their help throughout the entire process. From the early planning stages to the execution of the event, they are there to help the entire way. The staff at the Sports Commission have made it almost turn-key for an out of town event operator like myself to run a successful event year after year.
Ann Arbor is a great place to run an event. From the facilities and hotel options, to the outstanding downtown and restaurant scene, our families love coming back to Ann Arbor year after year. Thank you Ann Arbor Sports Commission, looking forward to another excellent event next year!" - Justin Kohl, COO, Lacrosse America
