Summer Solstice Weekend
Come celebrate the first day of summer with us in Ann Arbor! There are plenty of ways to have fun and keep cool this weekend, starting with a fantastic lineup at Summer Festival!

Whimsy: Family-Fun Itinerary

Friday, June 20

  • The Architects of Air return to Ann Arbor with another interactive exhibit: Miracoco. The luminarium, a monumental inflatable structure, will reside at Palmer Field from June 19 – June 22. Entry starts at 2:30pm on Friday with the last admission at 8:40pm. This is a ticketed, cash-only event ($10 per person ages 3+) with tickets available at the exhibition entrance. Note: The line to enter the exhibit could last more than one hour. The festival will announce via social media and the festival app if the event has sold out for an evening.
  • Next, head over to Ingalls Mall where father-daughter acoustic duo San and Emily Slomovits kick-off the Grove Stage at 7pm and kid-friendly activities continue at the KidZone Tent with Keith Hafner’s Karate.
  • Moxie Strings will take the Rackham Stage starting at 7pm with their feel-good melodies and foot-stomping, rock-influenced rhythms. Tap your toes along with this young trio as they put a fresh, enticing spin on Celtic and Americana music.

Saturday, June 21

  • It’s officially summertime — so it must be time to head to the closest water slide! At Rolling Hills Water Park, there are lots of twists and turns as you take a trip down one of their many slides or as you float down the lazy river!
  • The Architects of Air: Miracoco opens again at 2:30pm in case you didn’t have a chance to catch it yesterday. Only two more days to engage with this impressive sensory-rich exhibit.
  • Return to Ingalls Mall for more music, entertainment and refreshments!
  • MOMIX: Botanica will transform the Power Center at 8pm with its enchanting interpretation of nature’s beauty, power and grace. Tickets for children under 12 are only $15!

Sunday, June 22

  • It’s the first day of Ann Arbor Restaurant Week! Before heading back to Summer Festival, you should take advantage of the special menus and fixed pricing at participating restaurants.
  • Did you miss MOMIX: Botantica last night? There’s still a chance to catch them in tonight’s encore performance at 8pm.  Tickets only $15 for kids under 12!
  • The Kids Rock series continues at 5 pm with power-pop sensation The Omatics on the Rackham Stage.
  • At 6 pm on the Grove Stage, thirteen year-old musical phenom Magdalen Fossum continues to wow TOP audiences with her precocious blend of old-timey favorites, jazz standards and original songs.
  • Are you ready to get happy? Despicable Me 2 is playing at 10pm. Go ahead and bring your Minions!

Lively: Night-Life Itinerary

Friday, June 20

  • Challenge yourself with Capoeira — a Brazilian marital art class taught on the Power Center Lawn. Starting at 5pm, the session will feature music, dance, cartwheels, handstands, kicks, and escapes.
  • Afterwards, reward yourself with a refreshing pour from the Beverage Garden featuring a variety of beers and wine. While relaxing in the beverage garden, you can take in the sounds from both the Grove and Rackham Stages.
  • The Spanish Harlem Orchestra will be at the Power Center tonight with an open dance floor. Come ready to salsa while these talented musicians and vocalists entertain with energetic, rich Latin sounds.
  • Local favorites The Lucas Paul Band will be jamming on the Rackham Stage starting at 8pm and Detroit’s The Saints of Soul will keep the rhythm going at 9:30pm.
  • After 11pm, move to the Grove Stage where DJ Maxx Makau will fuel this 21+ crowd with hip hop, pop, reggae, Afro-beats, rock and mash-ups.

Saturday, June 21

  • Celebrate the first day of summer with a morning canoe or kayak trip down the Huron River. Start at the Argo Canoe Livery and navigate the Cascades — a series of drops and pools. Alternately, rent a tube and leisurely float down the river!
  • Summer Festival continues at 5pm at Ingalls Mall with some amazing music on the Grove Stage. Grab a bite from Culinary Row and enjoy the acoustic sounds of Audra Kubat followed by the award-winning performer Ralston Bowles from Grand Rapids.
  • Australia has been a hot-bed of amazing talent recently, including tonight’s Rackham Stage headliner — Clairy Browne & The Bagin’ Rackettes. With music like this, dancers will definitely be out in front of the stage swinging along to this doo-wop inspired group.
  • Ann Arbor’s DJ Scout will take things over at the Grove Stage at 11pm for the 21+ crowd. Drink specials will be available until midnight.

Sunday, June 22
