Thousands of friends and families will travel from Michigan and beyond to celebrate commencement weekend at University of Michigan. Below are some tips to make the most of the weekend for the graduating class of 2017 and their families.
Activities and Dining
From theater, dining, live performances, musical acts, museums and more, there is a lot to do throughout the weekend. Consider watching a stand-up comedy performance at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase, a musical theater performance at The Encore Musical Theatre Company in Dexter, or live music at The Ark. Remember to purchase tickets early as these events will likely sell out. The Ann Arbor area has some of the best dining options in the Midwest. You can find cuisines like Caribbean, Creole, Ethiopian, French, Vietnamese and more. Be sure to swing by the grand re-opening of Zingerman's Creamery on Saturday, April 29 and take a tour of the new space, enter a raffle drawing, and taste samples of their new products.
The Ann Arbor area offers a variety of accommodations from quaint bed and breakfasts to luxurious hotels and everything in between to meet your lodging needs. Keep in mind this is a busy weekend and hotels fill quickly. Reserve your rooms as early as possible.
Parking and Public Transportation
Traffic in downtown Ann Arbor and around campus can become heavily congested, causing delays. Consider using public transportation. There are a number of campus parking lots at a walkable distance from the stadium. For those that are driving, here is a map of parking lots and garages. Stadium Boulevard between Main and Kipke Streets (at Michigan Stadium) is closed for road reconstruction. For road closure and detour information, visit the City of Ann Arbor road and lane closures listing.
