Zingerman’s is an Ann Arbor institution known for outstanding food and world-class service. If you’ve been to the famous Zingerman’s Deli in Ann Arbor’s Kerrytown District, or to the bar or restaurant at Zingerman’s Roadhouse just west of downtown, or if you’ve ever ordered some tasty goods from Zingerman’s Mail Order, you know that the Zingerman’s experience is truly unique. Ever wonder where many of Zingerman’s treats are made? The company’s artisan producers are located in the South Side area on Plaza Drive on the south side of Ann Arbor – including Zingerman’s Bakehouse, Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory, Zingerman’s Coffee Company, Zingerman’s Creamery, and ZingTrain. They each have their own store, offering everything from chocolate sourdough bread to handmade cheese and more, and the food-lovers at Zingerman’s South Side always look forward to welcoming visitors to try their products. Being there is like a visit to an artisan market street!

For visitors who are especially passionate about baked goods, Zingerman’s Bakehouse created a school for home bakers called BAKE! – offering a varied and scrumptious arrangement of hands-on baking classes that involve lots of learning and lots of tasting! BAKE! turns 10 years old this year, and has continued to impress guests with quality, interactive learning for anyone interested in baking and kitchen skills. There are a multitude of class topics, ranging from Boston cream pie to bacon bread and pizza to pretzels and everything in between. Die-hard Zingerman’s fans will enjoy Zingerman’s Classics, a class that features Zingerman’s best-loved baked goods: Jewish rye bread, black magic brownies and hummingbird cake – plus a sampling comprised of Zingerman’s Deli’s classics like a sandwich, pickle, and brownie. Families who like to bake together are encouraged to consider BAKE! Family Classes – where children aged 7 and older can come with a parent to learn basics like American breads, cupcakes, doughnuts and more. Serious bakers enjoy BAKE!-cations – two or three days full of baking and eating, held over weekends, with topics like pastries and staff favorites.

Classes at BAKE! are especially beloved because of their approachability. All levels of baking expertise are welcome, and instructors are fun, friendly and passionate about their craft. Zingerman’s aficionados love learning the tried-and-true recipes of Zingerman’s Bakehouse – and even the “classic”, long-time classes are still wildly popular, such as Mambo Italiano: Italian Breads, Bake Me A Cake, and Cinn-ful Cinnamon Rolls.

For foodies who can’t get enough of Zingerman’s classes, consider adding a class at Zingerman’s Creamery or Zingerman’s Coffee Company to your itinerary when coming to BAKE! – they offer Cheese 101 (a delicious introduction to the “world of cheese”), Cold Brew At Home (great for coffee lovers in the summertime) and many more. If you’re interested in visiting yet another Zingerman’s business during your visit, plan a scenic drive just a few minutes from Ann Arbor to the lovely small town of Dexter, where Zingerman’s Cornman Farms offers hands-on cocktail-making classes each month in a unique farm setting with lovely gardens and a historic barn.
