African American History in Washtenaw County

Work continues on the new home for the African American Cultural and Historical Museum of Washtenaw County. In 2016, the museum hosted a number of Underground Railroad bus tours that included more than twenty historically important sites in Washtenaw County, including historic homes where runaways were stowed, where the freed slaves began their lives, and the cemeteries in which these legends were buried. The State Theatre’s Return to Art Deco

The State Theatre is an Ann Arbor staple for arts and culture enthusiasts. You can always count on The State Theatre to be playing the latest indie flick, or to see an old favorite for their Midnight Movie series. Now there will be twice as many screens to see the movie of your choosing. This iconic building from the 1940’s is getting a major facelift this year to restore it back to its Art Deco décor.
