In 2016, plenty of noteworthy new dining destinations popped up around the Ann Arbor area, and 2017 will be a great year for foodies to visit. Below are some of the most exciting brand-new and upcoming developments in the culinary scene here in Ann Arbor.

The Session Room recently opened on the west side of Ann Arbor, so 2017 is the perfect time to check out this new sports bar/restaurant hybrid. More than 70 beer taps, lots of televisions, and a casual, energizing atmosphere might make this new watering hole an Ann Arbor hotspot!

South University was home to Fred’s, a healthful diner concept specializing in tasty smoothies and whole foods, for several months in early 2016. Though now closed, the restaurant will re-open in a new location on Washington Street this year. The space previously occupied by b.a.b.o. Market (a Savco Hospitality concept), will now house Fred’s — so be sure to stop by for a matcha mint lemonade and avocado toast when they open this winter.

The brand-new Avalon Hearth and Soul Cafe in downtown Ann Arbor is sure to be a hit in 2017 — with freshly baked breads and java from the local coffee masters at Mighty Good Coffee — and a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu as well. Conveniently located on Liberty Street, Avalon will kick off their first calendar year in Ann Arbor in 2017.

The newest restaurant in the Zingerman’s Community is now open for business! At the very end of 2016, Managing Partner and Executive Chef Ji Hye Kim quietly opened Miss Kim, a Korean concept from Zingerman’s. Fresh off the wildly successful pop-up restaurant and food cart called San Street, Chef Ji Hye has crafted a menu that is all at once approachable and adventurous, in a beautiful sunny location in the Kerrytown district. In addition to extraordinary cuisine, Miss Kim also features a swanky bar area.

Foodies will delight in the twice-yearly Ann Arbor Restaurant Week, which will occur in January and in June. Most participating restaurants will offer prix fixe pricing with great deals for both lunch and dinner. It’s a great opportunity to explore all that the Ann Arbor area has to offer culinary connoisseurs.
