Join us at Riverside Park, August 25-27, for the 38th annual Ypsilanti Heritage Festival!

The mantra for the 2017 Heritage Festival planners is “new and improved” — and, oh how we have delivered! We are devoted to making this year’s festival one that blends the best of past festivals with lots of new, exciting attractions. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Hot Air Balloon and Helicopter rides on Frog Island
  • “Ring of Steel” circus and stunt performers
  • Four music performance stages
  • Magical History Tour
  • WWII Rosie the Riveters and Tribute Rosies
  • Craft beer provided by Ypsilanti local brewer, The Ypsi Alehouse
  • Expanded food vendors including local food trucks
  • Expanded Children's Entertainment area

Those are just a few of the many exciting things going on at 2017 Festival. The Festival also has great new and familiar vendors selling and showing their wares.

Of course, we couldn’t pursue these efforts without the generous support of our event sponsors, many of whom have continued to support the festival year after year. Additionally, the event has been blessed with many new sponsors, a sure sign of support for the revitalization of this local tradition.

Most of those supporting the renewed efforts have fond memories of its heyday and hope that those who have not previously attended — or those for whom it has been several years — will come check out all the excitement. And, for those steadfast goers, 2017 will continue a number of beloved traditions, such as the iconic Rubber Ducky Race.

The festival has been the seminal community summertime event for almost 40 years. It was started in 1978 by a group of community supporters led by Nathalie (Nat) Edmunds and Jane Bird. The story is nicely chronicled in the latest issue of the Gleanings, the official publication of the Ypsilanti Historical Society.
