12 Days of Shopping

Oct 24, 2017

November officially kicks off the winter holiday season — and we've created this handy sing-along shopping guide to help inspire some original gift ideas, whether you're shopping for a loved one or yourself!

On the first day of shopping, my true love bought for me: a new board game to play.
The day before Thanksgiving is sometimes known as Brown Wednesday — the day retail employees prepare for Black Friday by stocking shelves and more. To commemorate the day, Vault of Midnight in Ann Arbor will be celebrating with various activities and discounts. Why not stop by and pick up a new game to play with the family after dinner on Thanksgiving?

On the second day of shopping, my true love bought for me: two skeins of yarn.
Make Black Friday more colorful with yarn from Spun located in Ann Arbor's historic Kerrytown neighborhood. Know someone looking to pick up the craft? Spun also offers a variety of classes for beginners and experts!

On the third day of shopping, my true love bought for me: three gifts locally made.
The Ann Arbor area was designed for Small Business Saturday. Check out the UMMA gift shop for amazing items made by the U-M Cabinet Shop, the IT Boutique, or Artistica Gallery in Dexter for hand-made items made by local artists.

On the fourth day of shopping, my true love bought for me: four art tiles.
Motawi Tileworks is quintessential Ann Arbor — from its new Block M tile (Go Blue) to the classic designs that have been a part of Ann Arbor's art scene for more than 20 years.

On the fifth day of shopping, my true love bought for me: five brownie party packs!
Take a break on Cyber Monday and order uniquely Ann Arbor items online from Zingerman's Mail Order. Send amazing baked goods, cheeses, and coffee to loved ones who are unable to enjoy Zingerman's on a daily basis!

On the sixth day of shopping, my true love made for me: six charitable donations.
Take some time out of the holiday shopping whirlwind and give back to some local charities, like Food Gatherers, Ozone House, and Avalon Housing.

On the seventh day of shopping, my true love bought for me: seven Michigan hoodies.
Baby, it's cold outside! Warm up with a stylish and comfortable University of Michigan sweatshirt, or other maize and blue gear from the numerous retailers in the Ann Arbor area, including The M Den, Bo, Underground Printing, and Mo Sports Shop.

On the eighth day of shopping, my true love bought for me: eight trendy trinkets.
For some amazing stocking stuffers or smaller gifts for colleagues, check out The Rocket and Peaceable Kingdom. These stores have the perfect gift for the nostalgics in your life!

On the ninth day of shopping, my true love bought for me: nine German pretzels.
One of the most popular shopping nights in downtown Ann Arbor takes place on Friday, December 1. Visit downtown Ann Arbor to experience Moonlight Madness, Midnight Madness and the beloved tribute to German traditions, KindleFest located at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market.

On the tenth day of shopping, my true love bought for me: ten bottles of vino.
Whether its wine from the Vin Bar, a growler from Salt Springs, or a delicious distilled spirit from the Ann Arbor Distilling Company, the Ann Arbor area has the perfect compliment for your dinner party and festive fete.

On the eleventh day of shopping, my true love bought for me: eleven oils and vinegars.
Add some spice to your holidays! Items from Fustini's Oils and Vinegars and Ann Arbor Spice Merchants, both located in Kerrytown Market and Shops, make the perfect gift or addition to your own cupboards!

On the twelfth day of shopping, my true love bought for me: twelve original artworks.
Nothing says "unique gift" like a one-of-a-kind piece of art. WSG Gallery, Ann Arbor Art Center, Yourist Studio Gallery, and the River Gallery in Chelsea are just a few of the amazing studios and galleries in the Ann Arbor area.
